Another Paris
'Another Paris' is a photographic series that offers a look into the lives of seasonal farmers in the Farish region of Uzbekistan, a place humorously dubbed 'Paris' due to the phonetic similarity in Russian and Uzbek languages. My uncle's fields served as a stage for this photographic narrative, as I was documenting the lives of the farming families. These families leave their homes and move from the eastern to the western part of Uzbekistan for 8 months. They build houses out of sticks, put on a TV and work in the fields from dawn to dusk cultivating, growing, and harvesting watermelons, melons, peanuts, tomatoes, seeds. Children look after other children while their parents provide them with a decent future - study and marriage. It's a portrait of the spirit of seasonal farmers, who, in the face of challenging labor conditions, build lives marked by resilience and an unyielding sense of community. This project, at its core, is a tribute to these families who embody the heart and soul of Uzbekistan's seasonal agriculture, their stories offering a poignant reflection of the country's socio-cultural landscape.
